Think B.I.G.

At The Tender Age Of Six On March 8th, 1997 A Little Boy Went To Sleep After Watching His Favorite Rapper The Notorious B.I.G. Present Toni Braxton With The Award For Best R&B/Soul Female, Not Knowing That Would Be The Last Time He And Millions Of Other Fans Would Ever See Him Alive. When He Woke Up The Next Morning His Mother With A Somber Look On Her Face Told Him To Come Into Her Room And Sit Down. Once The Boy Sat Down His Mother Said “I Got Some Bad News” The Boy Curious As To What Was Going Asked What The Bad News Was. She Informed Him That Biggie Had Been Killed, The Boy Instantly Burst Into Tears. That Boy Was Me. I Remember Watching MTV, The Box, Vh1, And BET And Every Hour, On The Hour Seeing The Newsflash And Reality Check That B.I.G. Was Gone. I Remember Seeing The Videos For “Hypnotize”, “One More Chance”, “Big Poppa” And, “Juicy” Thinking To Myself “This Can’t Be Real”. At Six Years Old I Couldn’t Even Begin To Grasp The Concept Of Some Of The Things B.I.G. Would Rhyme About Nevertheless I Knew The Lyrics To “Ready To Die” And Even Junior Mafia’s “Conspiracy” Like I Knew My ABC’s And On March 25th, 1997 My Mother Took Me To A Local Record Store Where We Stood In Line To Purchase His Last Album “Life After Death” Which I Also Quickly Memorized. Not Even A Full Year After Losing Another Heavyweight Tupac Shakur. At This Age I Didn’t Know Much About The East Coast/ West Coast Beef So I Couldn’t Understand Why Either Of Them Had Been Killed But, As I Grew Older And My Knowledge Of Hip-Hop Expanded I Would Learn More And More About The Situation. Now Thirteen Years Later Here I Am, I Hip-Hop Artist In My Own Right Trying To Make The Foundation B.I.G. And 2Pac Helped Create Stronger But, Today Is Not About Me It Is About BIG. I Still Can’t Believe You’re Gone In The Physical Form But, Through Your Music And Your Video’s You Are Always Alive In My Heart. I Want To Thank You For Inspiring Me And Generation’s Of Other Artist’s To Come We Sincerely Miss You, And Will Try To Keep Your Name Alive. With All Of That Being Said If You Believe Like I Do Death Was Only The Beginning For Christopher Wallace. So Let’s Not Mourn Today But Celebrate Because On March 9th 1997 A Star Didn’t Die… It Was Born!
